A Long-Term Focus

By using “problem” behaviors as examples, you’ll get a complete dog training education that is focused on the big picture rather than a few isolated problems. Learn how to read your animal, how behavior works, and how to modify it.

Meet The Trainer

Having almost a decade of experience with a variety of exotic animals, head trainer Mary Tully brings a fresh take and effective technique to behavior modification.

Mary Tully has had the unique privilege of training a plethora of animal species in her career. From chickens to dolphins, she has applied the same general behavioral principles to every animal she has worked with. These experiences have resulted in a unique perspective and understanding about how behavior works and how to modify it using operant conditioning in a pure and objective way.

Before graduating middle school, a little Mary Tully had already volunteered at her local Humane Society, a horse rescue, and landed her first paid position as a kennel attendant at a local vet clinic.

While studying Behavioral Psychology at Auburn University, Mary volunteered at a rehab center for birds of prey and spent the summers as a Zookeeper at Busch Gardens in Tampa.

Mary went on to land a very coveted internship (and later a full time position) working with and training dolphins and sea lions at Sea Life Park in Hawaii.

After training professionally in several other facilities including SeaWorld San Diego, Discovery Cove in Orlando, and the Animal Actors Show at Universal Studios in Hollywood, Mary settled in Los Angeles to work with the animal species that started her training obsession: dogs!

Our Clients Are Happy Customers

100% of our clients would recommend Tully's Training to a friend. Here's what some of them have to say:

I'm very, very pleased with the experience - it exceeded my expectations.

I think the most important thing Mary did for me and Greta was to provide me with tools with which to become a better owner and companion to my dog. I am now much more confident and can move forward armed with techniques and strategies that I know will work.

The plus is Mary herself - pleasant and fun to work with, punctual, attentive, open to questions and issues, a great listener and a superb evaluator of the owner/animal relationship. I can't imagine a more extraordinary trainer.

Brewer was anxious and often frantic after almost two years with us. We were inches from reluctantly euthanizing him after a series of serious biting incidents. Our Vet suggested Mary as a step to avoid that!

We learned SO much. Mary is skilled, knowledgeable, and compassionate. Her very calm behavior proved to be an excellent idea to mirror as we work with Brewer and our other dogs. We had been very frustrated with Brewer and he clearly sensed it. We learned to be quiet and repeat commands calmly without the hysteria from our voices! We wish Mary could come live in the guest house!!

We were very happy with the experience. The private lessons were awesome!!! We were able to ask a bunch of questions and were taught by the trainer how to work with our dog when she wasn't there. Mary is incredibly knowledgable. She helped us understand the psychology of our puppy and how to make sure that we raised her to be an awesome dog!

Mary is an expert in her field across various species: dolphin, exotic animals and canines. The group classes are small and specific. The handlers and the canines get so much individual attention that I don't know who learned more at the first session, the human students or the canine students! It is literally a breath of fresh air to experience first-hand this positive, reward-based learning experience. Try it for yourself, you'll be glad you did and so will your K9 companions.

Mary was wonderful with our very neurotic dog, Arthur. She gives you realistic goals for you and your dog based on individual assessments. I felt like she really understood us and our dog and cares about his progress. Mary helped us learn that modifying Arthur's behavior was not only possible, but is an incredibly rewarding process. We have seen so much improvement and continue to see positive changes in Arthur's quality of life. Thank you Mary for your help!"
